Thanks for your web site it has inspired me! I’ve been looking for a sailboat to live on and cruise. I’m 21 and live in Miami Fl. I found a 81′ 365 sloop for sale in Florida fell in love with its potential thanks to Dosia. Went and saw it and saw the potential. I made an offer and have a survey scheduled for march 29th. Wish me luck! I’m going to be a liveaboard and your custom mattress looks like a must. I know how much I spent on one for my apparment but have no idea for a V-berth? Do you have a contact so I can look into the mattress?
PS: I’m young with big dreams and shoal pockets. Your a pretty young guy I was hoping you could give me any advice you can in terms of sailing the world and fixing up a soon to be mine 365?

The weight issue isn’t so much when you consider that an 8hp 4 stroke is almost as heavy (if not more heavy) as a 15hp 2 stroke. And I’ve seen and talked with hundreds of Caribe owners around the world. Never once heard of a transom issue.

I have heard of Carib transom issues. The question of HP – the difference in weight between 8hp and 15hp is it really worth the extra hp?

I used to have a PowerSurvivor 40E that I replaced by a Spectra Ventura 150; I get 5 times as much water (26 l/h) on only twice the amps (8A), with lower salt content. Make your own calcs. I run it from the solar panels and windgen on good days. Pricey though.

I’d probably be happy with something that made 10-15 gallons per hour. To be honest, I haven’t researched other brands or models so I can’t say with any positive confirmation. I’d probably buy the biggest one I have room for!

The biggest problem is that it’s too small. It works fine but 1.5 gallons per hour is not enough for our needs. I bought it because of the low amperage draw but now I wish I would have bought a much larger unit to turn on while we’re charging batteries. It would have been much more efficient.
